Zumba – Dance to health and fitness
Zumba is a type of dance fitness and a really effective cardio workout.
It is inspired by the various styles of Latin American dance to Latin American dance music and also to current chart hits.
It is a full body workout with easy to follow choreographies and it is such a fun and exciting way to strengthen your overall fitness level, to completely destress in body and mind and to improve your overall wellbeing.
Some dances are slower, some are faster, it doesn’t matter-you can engage with each choreography in your own way, you can move as much or as little as you like, it is a completely individual experience!
The music is so uplifting and adds such a feel-good factor to the whole dance class experience !!
In a Zumba class the class members engage in the movements and dances by following and copying the instructor who gives verbal and physical cues and instructions, while demonstrating the various dances – the dance steps are not broken down to be copied and learned as such, there would be too much stopping and starting, it is a far more effective workout to keep the flow of movement and dancing going naturally and it also enhances the relaxed easy going nature of the class – which is that there are no wrong moves, just keep moving and having exercise fun!

My name is Keelan Devane and I’m a primary school teacher and a licensed Zumba instructor.
I started teaching in Malahide 20 years ago and am happily still teaching in the primary school there.
I’ve also been giving evening Zumba classes for the last four years, I completed the instructor training course the year I turned 40 years old and now at 45 years old-I can honestly say that it is the best thing I ever found and continues to be the best thing I have ever done for my overall well-being.
There is something in my Zumba class for everyone because the nature of Zumba and the beauty of it, is that everyone can participate at their own personal pace and comfort.
It is such a feel-good and relaxed atmosphere with upbeat energising music in a supportive and fun environment.
