Course Description:

What is Lámh? Lámh is a manual sign language system designed for children and adults with intellectual disabilities and communication needs in Ireland.
This course is for Staff working with children and adults, with special needs, who use Lámh to enhance their communication. It is very suitable for Teachers, SNAs, Social Care Workers, PAs and Preschool & AIMS staff, Volunteers and others, who work in preschools, mainstream and special schools, adult support services and other settings. It may also suit parents and family members.
Participants must attend the two sessions, which comprises the full certified Lámh Module 1 Course. The course materials include LÁMH Module 1 books, LÁMH Certificate and the LÁMH Signs-online digital resource.
Course Content
This course covers an Introduction to Communication, Implementing Lámh at home, preschool, classroom, work & other settings, learning 100+ signs, communication breakdown with people with children and adults with a disability.

TWO COURSES AVAILABLE
There are 2 courses to choose from – one will run in October 2024 and the other will run in Nov/Dec 2024.
Course Start Day, Date & Time:
Course 1: Tuesday 22nd October and Tuesday 5th of November (No class on Tue 29th Oct)
from 6.30 pm – 9.30pm. (6 hours, 3 hours each night)

OR
Course 2: Tuesday 26th November and Tuesday 3rd of December
from 6.30 pm – 9.30pm. (6 hours, 3 hours each night)

Course Format: Face to Face, with an option for the Course to switch to online, if necessary.
Places on the course are limited to 12, with priority being given to those supporting a child or adult using Lámh.
Course Duration: Two evenings

Margaret Farrell, from the Rep of Ireland, is a practitioner and consultant in Disability Services.
Margaret holds B.A. Hons. Degree from Trinity College Dublin, in Speech and Language Therapy 1982. A M.Sc. Human Communication, University College London 1996, and M. A. in Health Service Management, University College Dublin 2004.
Margaret has worked for many years with people with communication challenges and with disabilities. Her ambition is to support people to develop their communication skills, use their voice to express opinions, make choices and informed decisions in their lives and make themselves heard in their community.

Running weekdays for 13 episodes, repeated daily at 12.10pm and 4.30pm.
Wednesday October 19th is a landmark day for children’s television in Ireland, when young people will unite in a spirit of inclusion to enjoy the broadcast of the very first episode of Dizzy Deliveries on RTÉjr. This brand-new homegrown TV series for children, created by Macalla in collaboration with Lámh for RTÉ, is centered around the Lámh signing system and the young people with Down syndrome, autism, and communication difficulties, who use Lámh to support their communication and self-expression.
