Gardening for Beginners – Spring
Course Description:
Gardening is a great way to help keep you physically and mentally fit.
This course is intended for beginners and gardeners who have some experience in the garden and want to expand their knowledge.
The objective of this course is to introduce participants to the world of gardening and learn how to complete tasks which are the basic foundations for success.
The classes will be mostly classroom based. We will undertake some workshop type classes to introduce such skills as seed sowing, taking cuttings, dividing and layering, potting etc.
By the end of the course, participants will have a strong understanding of what makes a good gardener!
Topics include:
- Getting to know your garden
- Planning for the seasons
- Right plant right place
- Propagation methods
- Nutrition/composts and watering
- Pruning and deadheading
- Pest and disease identification and control
- Container Gardening

| Class 2 | Right plant right place: Plant ranges and their uses |
| Class 3 | Plant propagation: Sowing seed & taking cuttings |
| Class 4 | Caring for gardens: Nutrition, composting, irrigation, pruning |
| Class 5 | Plant propagation: Division & layering and Grafting |
| Class 6 | Problems: Pests, diseases & disorders |
| Class 7 | Specials: Ponds, containers, raised beds & greenhouses |
| Class 8 | Putting it all together: A look at some great examples |
Course Day & Time: Tuesday evening 7.30 -9.30 pm
