Plant Your Own Garden with Stitches

Course Description:

This course is for advanced students only, who completed the Blue and Grey Sampler course in Autumn 2022.
You will work on a design of a garden from a bird’s eye view. You will stitch a pond, gravel paths, flower beds, vegetable plots, grassy lawn, bushes, berries, trees… You can apply stitches you have learnt before, but you will be encouraged to do it in a creative embroidery style, working the stitches in a very free way, overlapping them and stitching textural areas of mixed colours. The course is to encourage you to use your skills in meditative way, as intuitional “drawing with stitches”. It is entirely up to you where you will go with your project. You can create a very organic garden, a winter garden, a wild garden, a moon-garden, an aurora garden, a water garden, a sand garden, even a psychedelic garden with crazy colours – it is your choice! The important part of the course will be discussion and working out together various possible options of reflecting your ideas and your personality in the project. The students will need to provide their own materials and tools for the course – a set of needles, threads and the background fabric of your choice. The project will fit in an embroidery hoop, size 15cm or larger.
