Embroidering Banksy’s “Girl with Balloon”
Course Description:
This course is available for very advanced students only, who have completed at least the two most recent advanced courses of embroidery with Uisce and for those students who attended Fundamentals of Embroidery in Spring 2025.
The participants will work on an embroidered interpretation of the “Girl with Balloon” street artwork by Banksy. The students may embroider any other art piece by Banksy or other artist, after consultation with the tutor about the format and the techniques involved. If you wish, you can work on more than one!
Embroidering the piece by Banksy is a perfect challenge to change our way of thinking about embroidery as a very traditional, sometimes an old-fashioned, craft of embellishment. The projects can be interpreted in many ways and the students are encouraged to find their own style of expressing the piece through embroidery. The tutor will be working on her own interpretation of the “Girl with Balloon”, we will be exploring it together.
The students will need to provide their own materials and tools for the course. The teacher will provide the pattern and also support via email and WhatsApp through the entire course.
